They motivate others to act bravely when faced with adversity and danger, as they exemplify the highest ideals of courage and selflessness.

There are several types of gallantry awards in India, such as the Param Vir Chakra, Maha Vir Chakra, and Vir Chakra for the armed forces, as well as the Ashoka Chakra and Kirti Chakra for civilians. Each of these awards carries its own prestige and significance.

The Param Vir Chakra is the highest wartime gallantry award, while the Ashoka Chakra is the highest peacetime gallantry award. These awards are presented by the President of India during ceremonies held on Republic Day.

One of the most celebrated gallantry award recipient is Captain Vikram Batra, who was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra for his actions during the Kargil War. His fearless actions in capturing enemy positions serve as an inspiration to all.
